Rice and Ritual: From Seed to Harvest in Batad’s Terraces by Alexander Pomper is a photo exhibit and community benefit celebrating the resilience of the Ifugao people and the living landscape of the Batad rice terraces in the Philippines. Through photographs capturing the cycles of planting, harvesting, rice wine production, and ritual, the show highlights how ecology intertwines with daily life in one of the world’s most remarkable agricultural areas.
Despite its breathtaking beauty, the region faces increasing challenges due to destructive typhoons and landslides, accelerated by the climate crisis.
Proceeds from the event will support the Traditional Farmers’ Association in Batad for terrace rehabilitation, as well as typhoon relief on the ground in the Philippines.
Join us for an afternoon of cultural sharing and solidarity, featuring a photo show, short film screening, Ifugao meryenda (snacks!), and a silent auction.
Please RSVP for event updates and to help us gauge attendance.
Proudly supported by: Kalikasan Solidarity Organization, Filipino Bayanihan Center, Pro Photo Supply and Pamana.
Oregon-born and based in the Philippines, documentary photographer Alexander Pomper tells stories of resilience among farmers, producers, and cooks, honoring food cultures on the verge of extinction. In Batad, his friendships with the community opened a window into the rhythms of daily life shaped by rice farming.
