The Portland Jazz Orchestra, Maine’s premier concert jazz ensemble, has been performing regularly at One Longfellow Square since 2006 under the direction of Dr. Chris Oberholtzer. This 19-piece ensemble features a mix of instrumental and vocal big band music, including original works by local composers and classics from legends like Duke Ellington and Count Basie. Its members—professional musicians and educators—have toured and recorded with artists such as Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In addition to live performances, PJO offers educational clinics and appearances throughout northern New England.
