The new LYRES are on board for some high-energy raucous garage-rock, inspired by The Seeds, ? & the Mysterians, The Stooges, and Kinks, among others. Distilled from an amalgam of influences, injected with verve & vitality and presented in a wholly authentic way, Lyres wear their hearts on their sleeve. The new line-up consists of legendary frontman Jeff Conolly who leads a new group of Lyres for the band's latest return to Portland! The group aptly handles the dynamics of interplay between the rhythm guitar & Jeff's organ "What they do is too perfect to ever be out of fashion". After a (too) long hiatus, this is the first show for Lyres since Barcelona 2023, and not to be missed! The archival release Lyres: On Fyre at the Rusty Nail 1985, will be released on Misty Lane Records this Fall.
THE MAL THURSDAY QUINTET (described as "a musical odyssey through psychedelia, freakbeat, and swagger- pop"), is run like a biker gang, with chapters in Texas, New England, and the Pacific Northwest. What you will see tonight is the New England chapter consisting of the great Bob Medley on bass (The Malarians, Fiction, Big Yellow Taxi); with Frank Padellaro (King Radio) & Greg Saulmon (The Glad Machine) on guitars, and Boston-based drummer Chuck Ferreira (Eddie Japan / Greg Hawkes' Cars, The Shang-Hi-Los, Evil Streaks) on drums. Selections include the Byrdsy “Joke’s on Me” to the horror rock of “Lady in a Cage,” based on the 1964 film, plus a faithful version of Alan Price’s “O Lucky Man” that's straight outta 1972.
Also on board are Portland mavens TIGER BOMB with a fresh batch of super catchy rockers that combine raw, visceral power with crazy good hooks and a satisfyin' blast of crunch!. These four fab femmes rock hard, but make no mistake, Tiger Bomb knows their way around a good pop song full of catchy hooks & harmonies. Features Lynda Mandolyn of the San Francisco all-girl group Fabulous Disaster and Chris Horne of Portland's all-girl garage rockers, The Brood, with the rock-solid rhythm section of Amanda Ayotte on bass (Legendary Unknowns) and Jessica Smith on drums (The Resistance).
