Intro to Italian Wines – A Whirlwind Tour Through the World’s Most Diverse Wine Country
Italy makes more wine than almost any country on earth—and in more styles than you could taste in a lifetime. But what actually defines Italian wine? In this class, we’ll explore the history, geography, and grape varieties that shape the peninsula’s bottles, from the crisp alpine whites of the north to the volcanic reds of the south. You’ll learn how Italy’s patchwork of regions, native grapes, and centuries-old traditions influence what you taste in the glass.
We’ll taste a lineup that highlights Italy’s incredible range—mountain-grown whites, textured skin-contact wines, earthy classics, and a few under-the-radar gems—so you can get a true feel for the country’s breadth and charm.
Class will be led by our friend Diana Schultz, winemaker at Augustina Cellars, whose warm, down-to-earth teaching style makes learning Italian wine just as enjoyable as drinking it.
