About the event

Intro to 35mm Film Photography by Megan Bainbridge (Part I: Shooting B&W)
Do you have a 35mm film camera that you’d like to learn how to use, but have never gotten around to it? You’re in luck! Join us on 5/17!

About this Event

Due to the cost of materials for this workshop, you must fill out the form below to secure your spot with the instructor: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdYKzF-egi-S7deQdi58cAGLoYuiHolfhyOjp6IwqueexpaDQ/viewform?usp=header

(NOTE: Participants are asked to register by 11:59PM on Sunday, May 11th so the film may be acquired in time. Please email the instructor if you seek an exception.)

Join us from 2-5PM on Saturday, May 17th at the Equality Community Center to learn how to shoot 35mm black and white film! Each student will have the opportunity to shoot their own roll of 35mm black and white film. There will be a presentation on the science behind black & white film photography, a brief introduction to the history of photography (with a focus on different shooting techniques), and an After Workshop (A.W.) cheat sheet with tips and tricks on how to keep shooting film beyond the context of this workshop.

Each participant will be provided with one roll of 35mm black and white film. Please note, this workshop is intended to teach attendees how to shoot 35mm film using manual settings; to see and receive a copy of the pictures you have taken, you must either outsource film development separately at your own cost after the workshop or attend the separate Part II workshop at the Bakery Photo Collective

Participants are encouraged to source their own 35mm cameras and ensure that the cameras are tested/functioning. An extremely limited number of 35mm film cameras are available to borrow to use during the workshop on a first-come, first-serve basis and must be reserved prior to the event and event booking. Email bWVnYXJ0ZW5pbmZvIHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20= to learn more.

The intention of this workshop is to educate participants on the proper processes necessary to shoot film. A perfect roll of film is not guaranteed. As film photography is a science, closely following instructions and bringing a tested and functioning 35mm film camera to class is essential in producing a successful product.

Please note that this is a two-part workshop. This listing is for Part I, where we will shoot the film that we will develop during Part II. Part II takes place at the Bakery Photo Collective on Sunday, May 25th from 2-5PM. Participants may sign up for each workshop individually or choose to sign up for both. Participants who wish to sign up for only Part II must bring their own, pre-shot 35mm black and white film and email the instructor to confirm that their film type is compatible with the workshop. Participants who wish to sign up for only Part I must bring their own functional 35mm camera. Each workshop costs $75; signing up for both would cost a total of $150.
