4 Days! 40 Bands!! It’s The Decliners’ 20th Anniversary Bender!!!
For Immediate Release: Free 4-day Music Festival Celebrates 20 years of The Decliners
“I love my brothers. I don’t think people know how close we are. We’ve had deaths and marriages, and everything you can imagine, and it’s not a typical band. I think people will pick up on that. Because of the way that we kind of stick together. You know, it’s like you can’t really get between us.” Tommy Shivers, drummer, The Decliners
Twenty years is a long time for anything. Most businesses, not to mention, marriages, don’t make it five years. For a punk rock band, twenty years is an absolute, unheard-of eternity. Thus, it was much to their surprise, when The Decliners found themselves about to turn twenty, in 2025.
Though the four original members were now three (bassist Joey Steelhead passed away suddenly, in 2010), lead singer/frontman Nolan Void, drummer Tommy “Shivers” Morgan, and guitarist Dee Dee Hickson, together with their new (as of 2021) bassist, Brandon “Moonbeam” Peterson, The Decliners determined they should have an anniversary party, a fitting occasion to celebrate the milestone.
However, as soon as word got out about The Decliners’ twentieth anniversary, what was initially planned as a simple one night/three bands rock show, quickly metastasized into a full-blown, four-day festival!
Packing over forty bands, plus four deejays, into a four day weekend at SE Foster’s dive bar jewelbox, the Starday Tavern, is no easy feat. But, after twenty years of being lynchpins in the PNW circuit, “your favorite band’s favorite band” have drawn a stellar roster from their deep bench of talented friends and admirers, in the Pacific Northwest punk rock cohort.
The line-up reads as a Who’s Who of Pacific Northwest punk rock society, all of whom just happen to be ‘close, personal friends’ of The Decliners!
Confirmed performers include The Weaklings, Dry County Crooks, Kalichrome (members of Pond), Muddy River Nightmare Band, Grand Head (members of The Jimmies), The Sinks (members of Poison Idea), Dartgun and the Vignettes, Girl Drink Drunks, Complaint Department (members of 8-foot Tender), Cheap Life (members of Poison Idea, The Viles), the iconic Portland Elvis, and many more (full list, below).
Oh, and it’s a BENEFIT!
The Decliners have always been defined by their proudly leftist activism - songs like “Nightmare of the American Dream” and “Burn It All Down,“ pepper their albums with acidic riffs on national politics.
The Decliners walk their talk, too - never saying no to a worthy cause, playing dozens of concerts for organizations like Food Not Bombs, and The Portland Woman’s Crisis Line, as well as countless DIY benefits for friends (and pets!) in need of assistance.
Reflecting their deep commitment to social justice and anti-capitalism activism, The Decliners determined to make their anniversary weekend free to attend, while collecting suggested donations supporting four unique independent non-profits, a different one, each day of the four-day fest.
Donations will be made to:
The Dana Thompson Memorial Fund of Awesome - Teaches Portland’s Black youth to experiment and develop their artistic confidence through rock and roll.
