Are you a K-12 educator or museum educator interested in deepening your connection to your local history and local landscapes, and helping students to do the same? Join us for "Drawing to Deepen: Artistic Map-Making as a Tool to Weave Local History and Sense of Place"—a day-long intensive mapmaking workshop with artist and geographer Molly Brown of MollyMaps on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM.
This event will be held in-person in the OML's Cohen Educational Center on the University of Southern Maine Portland Campus. Lunch, as well as all supplies and materials, will be provided.
Registration is free, and this workshop is limited to 20 participants.
Registrants will receive more details and some prompts to consider two weeks before the event.
About the Artist
Molly is a visual artist, map-maker and geographer. She discovered geography at Middlebury College and went on to receive a Ph.D. in Human Geography from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She received a Watson Fellowship and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship to explore the value of map-making for communities and individuals. Molly has worked in environmental and art education for organizations, universities and schools across the country. Her current projects involve map-making with children, conveying climate change through landscape painting, and custom maps for place-based organizations.
