🧑🎨✍️ Creative Port Glasgow ✍️🧑🎨
On Tuesday evening we welcome our friend, volunteer, supporter and advisor John Moody as he launches his first book of poems here in his home town of Port Glasgow.
John organised an open mic spot for the Comet Fringe Festival and inspired me to write and recite my first poem at 52.
On Tuesday John will be reading from his new book and there will be an open mic for local poets. I get to read again.
🤷♂️ I’ve seen some people cringe at the thought, poems and the Port? 🤷♂️
The paradox being that, creativity and creative pursuits, is a luxury communities like Port Glasgow cannot afford, yet creativity affords us an escape from a sometimes harsh community.
I’ll be there on Tuesday, not just because John’s a talented poet and artist.
Not just because he’s a friend and I respect him.
Not just because I get to read again.
Not just because John has given my community so much over the years as an art teacher in Inverclyde schools and as a local elected councillor for years with Inverclyde Council.
I’ll be there because I believe I come from a very creative community.
I’m thinking of the local bands and musicians that have either came from the port or have port blood one generation removed.
We are talented and creative and this isn’t a luxury pursuit of the well heeled.
It’s a necessity for a community to thrive to be creative and open and unafraid to share.
Come along on Tuesday and help John launch his book, support our local creatives.
I’ve shared some links in the comments of artists and bands with Port blood.
Tuesday 12th August 6.30pm till 9pm with refreshments.
