Born in Swalala, a village outside Mbombela, Thembinkosi “Vimbs” Mavimbela is one of South Africa’s most respected musical voices. A masterful double bassist and visionary composer, Vimbs has performed with legends including:
Abdullah Ibrahim, Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, Simphiwe Dana, Msaki, Asher Gamedze, Feya Faku, McCoy Mrubata, and more.
His music is rooted in African heritage and shaped by years of collaboration across jazz, classical, and experimental scenes.
