On the new moon, we gather for a simple and traditional practice of ethical renewal.
In the Buddhist tradition, the new and full moons are times for Uposatha — a day of observance to pause, reflect, and realign our lives with what is wholesome and life-supporting. This practice is not about moral perfection, but about returning to clarity, restraint, and conscious intention.
The session includes quiet reflection, the taking of the Five Precepts for the coming lunar cycle, meditation, and a simple closing dedication.
While rooted in Buddhist practice, the ethical values expressed by the precepts reflect a universal orientation toward non-harming, honesty, care, and responsibility. They may be taken up meaningfully by those who are Buddhist, Buddhist-curious, or grounded in other spiritual, religious, or humanist traditions, each holding them in a way that aligns with their own faith or conscience.
The ceremony runs from 7:30–8am; the Hut will be open from 7–8:30am if you’d like to arrive early or stay longer to sit.
In person, or online Zoom.
Offered freely. Your donation (dana) is your practice of the precepts for the benefit of all beings.
