WUT are three friends from Vancouver making jangly pop music with a punk rock heart. Being in love with craft and the handmade, they love to create- and have together released a cassette, a full length record, and 12 homemade music videos. Their heart-felt live shows will have you hugging your friend while raising your fist at “The Man”.
In the 1990s in Olympia, Washington, Pat Maley and Mary Sharp made an album called Motor Like A Mother. Back then they were known as Little Red Car Wreck, but these days they go by Guidon Bear (pronounced GUY-DAWN…)
Mary sings, plays guitar and produces albums and videos of the songs she writes. Of the songs she writes, Mary says that they are nightmare pop, which is to say the songs are structured around appealing guitar lines and bubbly synthesizer arpeggiations, telling funny/sad/ exasperating/tender stories of everyday life in the midst of our modern hellscape. Mary’s day job is teaching English and music to incarcerated High school students, and she says that her students teach her how to see the magic in other people’s full humanity.
Pat is the founder and operator of Yoyo Recordings, a recording studio and record label in Olympia since 1984. When Guidon Bear plays live, Pat plays electronic sounds and samples by hitting with sticks electronic music instruments that are designed to be hit with sticks. Pat also drums in a band of parents and teachers that play once a week for 300 elementary school students who sing along at Friday morning assemblies, and Pat drums for the Olympia granny punk band Bundt Cake. Pat works as a mental health counselor, and is also taught by clients how to see the magic in other people's full humanity.
