Flooding impacts more people, more often than any other natural hazard in the Wellington region. Understanding flood risk is more important than ever. By working with communities to understand flood risks, we can help minimise the impacts on people, businesses and critical infrastructure.
On behalf of Porirua City Council, Wellington Water has created two flood maps to show the impacts of flooding in Aotea/Paremata and Whitby/Duck Creek. These maps will eventually inform Council’s district plan.
To ensure our maps are correct, we want to confirm that they match your lived experience of flood risk if you live in these neighbourhoods.
Together, we’re running four community drop-in sessions across Porirua during in June 2025. You don’t need to book in to attend, simply turn up to any of these sessions. You can chat with our experts, or look at the maps to see if they match your experience.
This session on Sunday 15 June 2025 will be for the Aotea/Paremata and the Whitby/Duck Creek catchment area.
Your knowledge is important to help us understand the complex world of flooding. We want to present the maps we’ve created and give you an opportunity to share your photos, stories or flooding observations with us – whether this in on your property, local street or neighbourhood, or even a nearby stream or river.
We look forward to seeing you there!
