Saint of Soldiers
Montana Rooted, Bluegrass Infused, Haunting Americana
Saint of Soldiers is a six-piece band based in the rugged expanses of Northwestern Montana,
fusing roots Americana, storyteller folk, and bluegrass into a sound that is both haunting and angelic.
With a penchant for the macabre and a deep connection to the natural beauty and history of their home
state, their music weaves together narratives of resilience and heritage with the untamed spirit of the
Northern Rockies. Although the band comprises five members, they frequently perform in smaller
configurations—splitting into quartets or trios—to offer dynamic and intimate renditions of their
signature sound.
Their name pays tribute to the Mission Valley’s town of St. Ignatius—where over half the group
hails from and which is synonymous with the patron saint of soldiers. This symbolic connection guides
their mission to honor Montana’s rich legacy, a commitment evident in performances at historic venues
like the Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana and Paradise Elementary School, and in collaborations with
local artists and businesses. Sharing stages with touring acts such as The Droptines, Hannah Juanita &
Mose Wilson, Dakota Poorman, The Damn Quails, and Ronnie and the Redwoods, they have solidified
their presence in the regional music scene while seamlessly bridging past and present.
The band’s journey is as diverse as its members. Lead vocalist Caity North, with a lifetime of
creative arts experience, anchors the group with her powerful, emotive voice. Her husband, Cody North, a
banjo player and composer, brings authenticity through his varied experiences as a cowboy, blacksmith,
farrier, and commercial fisherman. Classically trained violinist Alyssa Shriver, whose angelic sound not
only adds profound depth but also infuses their music with a transcendent, celestial quality, joined after a
serendipitous encounter at the historic St. Ignatius Mission Church. Bassist Spencer Sucha, whose soulful
playing has been a steady presence in the group since reconnecting with Cody after nearly fifteen years,
completes the ensemble with a deep, resonant foundation. His playing not only anchors the music but also
amplifies its emotional depth, allowing the audience to truly feel the heart of each song.
Enhancing their narrative is Amelia Wieder, a gifted photographer and videographer based at W4
Ranch in Charlo, Montana, whose work captures the raw emotion and authenticity of their performances.
Beyond the music, Saint of Soldiers is committed to fostering community growth and
creativity—collaborating with local entrepreneurs, artists, and businesses, and advocating for music
education in underserved areas to ensure that Montana’s rich musical tapestry endures.
Looking ahead, the band is set to release their debut album, produced in-house at S.O.S. Studios,
in May 2025. The lead single, “Lydia,” is a heartfelt homage to Caity’s grandmother and her
unapologetically bold life in the 1920s. Through evocative sound and soulful performances, Saint of
Soldiers transcends being just a band—they are storytellers, educators, and ambassadors for Montana,
inviting audiences to experience a profound connection to place, history, and humanity.
