All 18-21 year old campers need to be vetted (cleared background check and 2 online trainings) prior to the start of camp in order to attend.
WHEN: Sunday, June 15- June 21, 2025
WHERE: Camp Virgil Tate, Kanawha County, WV
WHO: This camp is open to children 9 years of age through 21 years of age and who are interested in horses. 4-H members and prior campers are given preference.
Campers 18 and older must complete a background check and online training prior to camp. If you or your camper is 18 to 21 years old on the first day of camp (June 16), contact the 4-H office at

COST: The total camp cost is $350.00 (does not include camp shirt, camp pictures, crafts, or refundable stall fee)

INFO: The purpose of SDHC is to provide children an environment in which to develop skills in a specific riding discipline. Emphasis is placed on educating participants in horsemanship/equitation and showmanship techniques. Campers must bring their own horse, tack, feed, and other equipment/supplies with them to camp. Campers choose from classes like western, roping, hunt seat, and more to build their equine skills. Riders of abilities are welcome, from beginners to advanced riders!
