Hosted & Sponsored by Casino Mine Ranch, a historic estate vineyard in Amador County's Sierra foothills, managed by fourth-generation Californians Jim and Rich Merryman.
Casino Mine Ranch's beautiful tasting room, pictured above, was designed by presenter Don Jacobs, FAIA. His work here reflects the same values that shaped The Sea Ranch: environmental sensitivity, clean lines, and a deep respect for the land.
Join Don Jacobs, FAIA, for an insightful presentation on The Sea Ranch, the renowned coastal community in Sonoma County celebrated for its groundbreaking sustainable architecture and thoughtful land planning. As a pioneering architect who designed over 100 custom homes at The Sea Ranch and served as Design Committee Chairman, Don will share firsthand stories and inside perspectives on the visionary team behind this award-winning community from the 1960s and 1970s.
Attendees will explore how The Sea Ranch’s architecture integrates passive solar design, natural ventilation, and energy-efficient systems to minimize environmental impact while promoting occupant well-being. The presentation will also delve into the master plan’s emphasis on careful site selection and land conservation strategies that preserve natural resources and reduce carbon footprint.
Additional topics include how green roofs, rainwater harvesting, and native landscaping support biodiversity and water conservation, and how the homes’ clean lines and simple geometric forms reflect a modernist aesthetic rooted in sustainability. Hosted by Casino Mine Ranch, this session offers a unique opportunity to learn about the intersection of architecture, ecology, and community design from one of The Sea Ranch’s distinguished architects.
