What is the Big Butterfly Count?
Since 2010, Butterfly Conservation having been running an annual butterfly count project to encourage everyday people to contribute to our data on the health of butterfly populations. And, as populations continue to decline, we need your help more than ever to protect these vital species! More info:

What is involved?
All you need is a quiet spot and 15 minutes to count and record. To encourage as many to get involved as possible, we are organising our very own special event dedicated to the count at our Forest School site, in the private woodlands of Rushcliffe Country Park. You can pop along any time between 1pm - 4pm (and stay for as long or as short as like) - our qualified Forest School leader and wildlife enthusiast Poppy will show you how to record, with your own stop watch and recording sheet (access to the official app is also available, for adults who prefer to log their recordings that way!). Once you have completed your 15 minutes of watching, hand back your sheet with your recordings so Poppy can upload them onto the official database, and you will receive your very own official certificate of completion!
As a thank you for all your hard work recording, you can stay and play in the woods, with our range of butterfly-themed nature crafts, and butterfly information stations. Children are also welcome to engage in Forest School free play within the woodlands.
This event is all about protecting our butterflies, whilst also giving you and your child/ren a chance to relax, unwind, have fun and get creative in the woods.
All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. This event is suitable for children aged 2-14. Infants under 2 can come free with a sibling. Teenagers over 14 are welcome to accompany a child, however there must also be a responsible adult present.
See FAQs on Eventbrite for more information. Full information will be sent out to attendees 2 days before the event.
