Speaker Series: Among Us Beneficial Microbes in Society

Invisible to the naked eye, there are millions of microbes among us. Microorganisms can have a "bad rep", but there many that are beneficial to our daily lives. Explore the diversity of microorganisms and their many positive contributions to society!

Our series aims to bring local topic experts to the library to share their knowledge with the general community--everyone is welcome! A Q&A/discussion will follow each presentation.

Richard (Ricky) is a research scientist with Lallemand Animal Nutrition living in Plattsburgh. He is a Pacific Northwest native with a BS and MS in Animal Science. He has been based in the northeast for the last 10 years, and his research experience ranges from ruminant nutrition, lactation biology, and silage microbiology. In his current role with Lallemand Animal Nutrition, Ricky is a scientist in the R&D team studying microbes on forages and silage for livestock. In collaboration with the Miner Institute, his lab focuses on several topics surrounding silage fermentation. Additionally, Ricky is concurrently working on his PhD in Microbiology at the University of Guelph's Food Science Department with Dr. Gisele LaPointe.

Lifelong Learning for All will be held the first Wednesday of each month (except holidays) at 5:30 PM in the library auditorium.
