About the event

Sweetness at the Threshold - a weekend of Death exploration
Join us for an entire weekend of feasting, ceremony and conscious underworld spelunking at Nine Mountain!

This event is born out of the absolute certainty that each and every one of us is someday going to die, that we must learn to know Death in order for us to live fully and well, and that by doing so we are offering up an antidote to the death-phobia that runs deep in our culture.

Saturday and Sunday will each be their own separate event -though each under the theme of exploring our relationship with Death, Dying and the Dead themselves. Participants can choose to attend one day or both, and an overnight option is available for those who would like to immerse fully in all of the weekend offerings. Brunch on Sunday will also be provided for anyone who decides to stay overnight on Saturday.

SATURDAY - 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 & 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 (With Esja & Kaitlin Cronin)

This will be an evening of ritual, connection, poetry, song, story telling and guided practices as we wrestle and dance with Death and impermanence together.

Dinner and hand-crafted medicinal herb infused chocolate truffles (created by Kaitlin Cronin) will be provided. 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿!

These performances can be just about anything - poetry, story telling, song, music, movement...The weirder the better. SUNDAY - 𝑭𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒅 (With Esja and Marie Echo)

“I remember the names of my ancestors. I speak the names of those I love. I speak their names and they live again. May I be so well-loved and remembered. In truth, may the gods hear my name. May I do work with my hands worth remembering...”
― Normandi Ellis, Awakening Osiris: A New Translation of the Egyptian Book of the Dead

In the natural way of things, there is a recopricity in the relationship between the living and the dead, and a longing which flows in both directions.

On 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, we will gather to feast together and feed our honored dead through offerings and remembrance. This will be an evening to remind ourselves that our connections expand far beyond the realm of the living and human, and that our ability and responsibility to tend to a relationship does not end when someone dies.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 this day, where Marie will guide participants in exploring and clarifying their end-of-life wishes. Those who sign up for Sunday only can either come in the afternoon to participate in the workshop and the evening activities, or can choose to come just for the evening. There will be plenty of spacious time in the morning and afternoon to relax, connect and wander the land as you please.

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴:
- a potluck dish to share
- a photo or object representing your beloved dead to place on the altar
- stories, poems or songs in honor of your dead loved ones

𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲:
11am - Brunch
2pm - End of Life workshop with Murry
5:30-6pm - Begin gathering for the evening activities
6pm - 7pm - potluck
7pm - 9pm - Feeding the Dead (sharing stories and collective remembrance)
