Hawley Bog in the Fall

At an elevation of 1,800 feet, Hawley Bog, owned by The Nature Conservancy and the Five Colleges, resembles the cold bogs of Canada. Come learn the ecology of bogs, the differences between bogs and other wetlands, and conservation efforts for these critical habitats that sequester large amounts of carbon. An early fall walk before the frosts should enable us to see all three types of Massachusetts' carnivorous plants: sundews, pitcher plants, and bladderworts. Autumn is also the time to see cottongrass, a glacial relict species.
