Hello, Friends & Fellow History Enthusiasts -
Dig into El Dorado County's past! ⛏️ The El Dorado County Historical Society is thrilled to announce the next installment of our 2025 Historic Field Speaker Series. Join local geologist, paleontologist, and mining expert, Rich Dvoracek, for a unique program: "Mines, Caves, and Quarries of El Dorado County."
Rich will take us on a fascinating journey to uncover the legacy of several long-forgotten tunnels, natural caves, mines, and quarries that fueled the region's early economic growth. This is a unique opportunity to explore the county's natural history and mining heritage.
What to Expect:
An engaging presentation by Rich Dvoracek in the outdoor pavilion at Gold Bug Park with specially-curated tours of a gold rush era mining claim and two historic mines, one of which has been closed to the general public in recent years. Rich will show us the geological formations and unique natural features that shaped our local orogeny.
