Soft Pastel Skills and Still Life Studies
with Maxine Thompson
This two-day workshop will zoom in on the application of pastel and is perfect for beginners and intermediates. Learn how different strokes create texture, how to apply light and dark to develop shapes. With a focus on drawing still life objects, we will explore colour mixing, shaping with light and shade, making shiny things shine, finding perspective and drawing transparent glass.
This workshop will teach you wonderful foundation skills to help you build on your soft pastel application and observation skills.

About Maxine
New Zealand born artist and tutor, Maxine Thompson has been recognised for her talent at depicting people and animals in life like pictures.
Named as Master Pastellist by the Pastel Society of Australia and also by PANZ Pastel Artists of NZ
Maxine drew her first commissioned portraits as a teenager but almost abandoned a career as an artist. She qualified for a law degree and took up legal work in England.
She kept returning to her first love, however and over the years was often commissioned for portraits. In 1990 Maxine took up life as a full time artist. Maxine has exhibited in many art shows and won many prizes and awards.
