VIVAMENTE CONFERENCE 2025

In the Late Middle Ages, medicine was more than a scientific and professional discipline—it was a system of values, tools, and languages that deeply interacted with the political, social, and legal dimensions of the time.

The notions of prognosis, diagnosis, and health functioned as conceptual bridges between medicine, philosophy, and theology, shaping broader debates on uncertainty, crisis management, and the social context of knowledge formation.

By gathering Medieval, Islamic, Jewish, and Early Modern thought scholars, this conference explores intersections between medicine and society in the Late Medieval period. The conference adopts an interdisciplinary approach to evaluate how medical theories, practices, and language 'influenced'—and were 'influenced by'—philosophical, theological, and political thought.
