Key Information

Date: FRIDAY 28TH NOVEMBER

Location: Eastcote House Gardens, High Road, Pinner, HA5 2FE

Time: The training session will begin at 11am and finish at ~2:30pm.

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) is looking for volunteers to help survey rivers in the Crane catchment using the Riverfly Monitoring Initiative (RMI). The RMI is a national scheme used for monitoring the health of rivers developed by the Riverfly Partnership. RMI involves conducting 3-minute kick samples in the river to assess the presence, abundance and diversity of invertebrates to gauge the health of your river. Free training in the sampling method will be provided by the Zoological Society of London.

We are particularly intested in traiing volunteers who can help monitor our new site in the restoration zone at Spider Park as well as a potential future site at Stonefield Park.

In the training you will learn:

•The theory of the RMI and how it helps improve rivers

•How to kick sample a river

•How to identify river invertebrates and score a sample

•What to do with the data you collect and how to get involved in Riverfly Monitoring Schemes across London

Equipment and refreshments will be provided (please bring your own wellie boots and lunch!). More information is available here; https://www.riverflies.org/anglers-riverfly-monitoring-initiative-armi

You must be over 18 to attend this course

** Please note - this event may have to be cancelled at short notice if weather conditions do not allow for safe sampling, so please keep an eye on your emails for any updates!
