Bobwhite Management 102: Managing Quail in Working Agriculture Operations

Join Biologists from SCDNR, Clemson Extension, Quail Forever as they spend the day discussing & showcasing management of the Bobwhite Quail.

Participants will interact directly with biologists as they discuss the natural history, biology and management of bobwhites and other members of the grassland bird guild.

Time: Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Classroom sessions include:

• Annual habitat requirements
• Management practices to meet those needs
• Managing adjacent woodlots
• Importance of habitat connectivity
• Managing pivot corners, ditch banks, hedgerows
• Brood habitat (crop, pollinator plantings, planted brood patches)
• Supplemental feeding
• Predator control

The afternoon sessions will be held in the field at Pineland Farms and Oak Lea WMA:

• Equipment (selection, safety, and operation)
• Native plant identification and wildlife value
• Overview of forestry and agricultural management practices on the property.

SAF Continuing Education Credits applied for SC Pesticide Credits:
