Park Elementary and the Chipley Historic Center will join forces on Saturday, Aug. 23, to host a community event as part of the 2025 Great Southeast Pollinator Census. The free, family-friendly program will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the Chipley Historic Center, 146 N. McDougald Ave., Pine Mountain.
The census is a citizen science project organized by the University of Georgia that invites individuals of all ages to count and record pollinators, providing valuable data on the health of the region’s environment. A 15-minute counting station will be available in the Center’s pollinator garden, where participants can learn to identify and tally pollinators while enjoying hands-on education about these essential species.
“This is a great opportunity for our community to come together, enjoy nature and contribute to important environmental research,” said organizers from Park Elementary and the Chipley Historic Center.
In addition to the pollinator counting, guests can explore the Center’s historic building and learn more about local history. No registration is required.
The Chipley Historic Center, established in 1985, is dedicated to preserving Pine Mountain’s historical documents, photographs and heritage. Located in the original City Hall, built in the early 1900s, the restored building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and houses a wealth of genealogical and historical resources.
