Journalist and book editor Robrt Pela leads an eight-week writing workshop for first-time authors.
You Ought to Write a Book is an eight-week class aimed at the first-time author who has a story to tell but doesn't know where to begin. We’ll explore basic techniques to get you started writing, and to keep writing. You’ll discuss what's behind your desire to write, refine your story idea, and learn about the importance of creating a writing practice; learn the difference between traditional publishing and self-publishing and the advantages of each, as well as writing tricks like how to bust through "writer's block.” Participants will also learn how to write a book proposal and shop for a literary agent. No previous writing experience is necessary, and the workshop is relevant to both fiction and nonfiction work. How-to handouts each week are practical tools that can be used as “cheat sheets” when you’re writing. If you’re looking for something to get you moving on your book project, this workshop is for you.
