Coffee Basics XA-TS01

This hands-on short course will introduce you to the practical skills and knowledge needed for coffee making. Whether you're exploring a career in hospitality or simply love good coffee, you'll gain essential barista skills and confidence behind the machine.

Through guided, step-by-step instruction, you'll learn how to operate and maintain a commercial coffee machine, master milk frothing and pouring techniques, and prepare a variety of popular espresso-based drinks. By the end of the course, you'll be ready to step into a junior barista role or impress friends with café-quality coffee at home.

To enrol in this course, you must be aged 15 years or older, and be one of the following:

• an Australian citizen or permanent resident

• a New Zealand citizen

• the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa

• an eligible temporary visa holder as defined in the CIT Admission and Enrolment Policy.

• Face-to-face course delivered on-campus (5 hours)

• Barista basics, including making espresso and preparing popular coffee styles.
• How to use and clean a commercial coffee machine.
• Techniques for steaming, frothing and pouring milk with professional consistency.
• Hygiene, cleaning and safety practices essential in a cafe or hospitality setting.

• Those interested in starting a career in hospitality or as a barista.
• Current students (aged 15 years and over) or job seekers looking to gain practical, hands-on barista skills.
• Coffee enthusiasts who want to learn how to make café-quality coffee at home.
• Small business owners wanting to add coffee service to their offerings.
• Anyone who loves good coffee and wants to learn more about how it’s made.
