About the event

Second Thursday: Carte Blanche Launch
Carte Blanche is a collaborative publication/exhibition project featuring the work of 22 artists, poets, and experimental cartographers.

About this Event

Join Ulises for the launch of Carte Blanche, a collaborative publication/exhibition project organized by the Printmaking graduate cohort at Tyler School of Art, featuring the work of 22 artists, poets, and experimental cartographers with ties to the city of Philadelphia.

An edition of 40, the publication serves as a conversation between Philadelphia-based artists; one which begins in our city but extends outward, pushing against formal boundaries and frameworks of what we consider to be inside or outside of a place.

About the Publication:

Carte Blanche interrogates the subjective nature of maps and diagrams, revealing them not as neutral objects but as tools shaped by power. Artists have long utilized the language of cartography in ongoing political and cultural interventions. From creating maps of psychogeography to experiential mapping via new technologies, visual diagramming can communicate collective knowledge or an individual experience; an attempt at knowing or fathoming an impossible space.

Through a reimagining of landscapes, affective topographies, or utopian possibilities, artists in this publication examine the conditions of cartography and schematic propositions. This project challenges cartographic norms by prioritizing lived experiences over traditional spatial mapping, drawing attention to areas that deserve greater visibility and care while centering community resilience and unseen stories.
