Silas Stewart:
Luminous is a word infrequently used and most commonly found in fantasy writing. It can be used to describe scenes haunting, beautiful, majestic, subtle, and surreal. Since using it as a moniker for my original music I have noticed it in series such as the Expanse, Harry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings among others. I feel a parallel between my draw to fantasy and my commitment to personal artistry in writing music. There are elements of escape, grandiosity, and unequivocal truth that I find in each.
For this concert I will be singing 10 original songs and accompanying myself on piano. These songs are deeply personal and truly original. I do not believe anyone else could have written them. The meaning is split between the lyrics, harmony, rhythm and melody. The decision to add lyrics and devote practice hours to vocal technique has been an intentional one in order to add clarity and brevity to my work as a composer and performer. The work comprises themes of beauty, unity, pain, love, growth, introspection, prayer, striving, and surrender.
Ben Byrd:
Benjamin Byrd is a guitarist and composer from Houston Texas. He attended Oberlin College where he obtained degrees in Jazz Performance and Africana Studies, and now resides in Philadelphia where he teaches music at Beyond the Bars and performs around the city.
