This lecture will feature the field marks useful in identifying perched raptors. While driving around the lower RGV birdwatching, one usually sees raptors perched on poles, wires, trees, and on the ground. These, in most cases, can be identified using field marks illustrated in field guides, especially raptor field guides, and especially if one uses a telescope or takes photos to study later. Perched figures of 23 species from four bird field guides, Hawks raptor guide, and raptor photo guide will be shown, as will photos of all of them. Field marks include plumage, relative size, and wingtip to tail tip positions. All regularly occurring raptors will be covered.
