For over eight years, Suzanne Rolfe, Melita Dennett and Kerry Boettcher have ventured deep into the more esoteric corners of Europe’s masked festivals — from the devilish Krampus parades and primordial Kramperl/Buttnmandl of Germany to the horned Perchten of Austria.
Through photography, writing and field recordings, they have captured these strange and curious rites, now showcased in their Wilde Volk exhibition at Mint House.
Join them for an evening of talks, photographs and film, as they delve into the historical origins of these rituals and explore how they have evolved within modern European culture.
