Responding to good poetry brings about deep feelings of well-being and enjoyment. In this course, mostly informal discussion, we will consider how poetry works, using images, forms, and sound qualities. Mostly, though, we will be attentive to personal and cultural connections, to see how poetry can inspire our lives and help create well-being. If you weren’t much of a poetry reader before this class, don’t worry—you will soon become one.
The text for the class is Joy: 100 Poems, edited by Christian Wiman. Available on order at our local bookstores: McLean and Eakin, and Between the Covers, as well as online.
