Step into the world of cyanotype and discover the magic of making striking blue and white prints using light. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore this historic photographic process and create a collection of beautiful pieces to take home.
Led by local artists Caterina and Sharon, you’ll be guided through the simple chemistry behind cyanotype printing, from preparing light-sensitive paper to understanding exposure times, developing and drying your work. Pre-prepared sheets will be ready for you to experiment straight away, giving you plenty of time to play, test and explore.
You’ll work with foraged botanicals, pressed flowers, stencils, black and white images on acetate, hand-drawn elements and found objects. There will be opportunities to layer imagery and try different approaches, encouraging you to move beyond the traditional method and create something truly personal.
As your confidence grows, you’ll produce a selection of finished prints, with blank cards available if you’d like to mount your designs.
All materials are provided, though you’re very welcome to bring small objects or plant materials of your own to experiment with. The chemicals used are non-toxic, and gloves will be available for anyone who prefers to wear them while washing their prints.
No experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to explore. Suitable for complete beginners as well as those who would like to develop their skills further. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout.
