Everyone is invited to be part of the 2nd Annual Downtown Community Cigarette Butt Clean Up on Sunday August 10th from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., starting from Quaker Foods City Square. We are starting a bit earlier so we can beat the heat!!!
Last year in our first ever cigarette butt clean up - 12 volunteers managed to collect 16,780 cigarette butts in just 2.5 hours. These numbers blew everyone away!! For this second annual event - do you think we can get more volunteers to come out, and see if we can beat last years total? With a few more volunteers then last year - we could hit 20,000. If we doubled our volunteers - could we hit 30,000?
These clean ups are easy - you can be quick and nimble, and can search for cigarette butts ANYWHERE in the downtown core. Sidewalks, crosswalks, in front of bars, near bus stops, benches, parking lots, parking garages. They are literally everywhere!!!
Gloves, pick-up pails and litter pickers will be provided – bring your own upcycled container as well. We will have a water cooler - please bring a refillable water bottle if you can!
This event will run rain or shine. The ONLY way this event will be cancelled is if there are imminent thunderstorms during the clean up window, which could threaten lightning. A cancellation message will be announced 2 hours before the event thru Clean Up Peterborough social media channels (Facebook and Instagram). Check anytime after 6:30am to see if a cancellation notice has been posted.
