WA portrait artists are proud to announce that our annual portrait exhibition will be held at the Council House, Perth this year.
WA portrait artists is an association of WA artists who include portraiture within their practice. Members all live in or have a connection to Western Australia and have been a finalist in a major national or international portraiture prize such as the Portia Geach, Doug Moran, Shirley Hannan and the Archibald, or have otherwise joined through juried membership.
Since its formation in 2012 our group has been a supportive network for the sharing of ideas, a proactive collective seeking out collaborative opportunities and ways in which our members' work can be promoted through exhibitions and community engagement.
Our exhibition is a rare chance to see some of Australia’s finest portrait artists all come together to showcase the diversity of interpretation that make up the genre of portraiture.
During the run of the exhibition, in collaboration with Council House and the City of Perth Library, our members will be hosting several artists talks and demos. These informative talks are an opportunity for all to be inspired and discover the depths of the portraiture genre. The artists will focus on their art practice, sharing their experiences of being finalists in major portraiture prizes, how they create their work and the ways in which they express the complexities of society and stories of the human condition
Exhibition runs from 26 May to 27 June 2025.
Opening night for artists and invited guests is on the 30 May from 5pm to 7pm.
The exhibition is open to the general public weekdays from 9am to 5pm.
