You're invited to a hands-on, seasonal basketry series at the Lanark Highlands Basketry Museum!
Join us for five full-day workshops, each one focused on a different local, natural material — including cedar bark, spruce roots, cattails and rushes, grapevine, and willow.
Led by master basketmaker Ankaret Dean with support from her apprentice Melissa Cornacchia (Honeybee Homestead), each workshop includes:
✔️ Material harvesting & prep techniques
✔️ Traditional weaving skills
✔️ A guided, hands-on basketry project
✔️ Time to browse the museum & ask questions
✔️ Snacks, drinks & a creative day outdoors
Workshop Dates & Materials
All workshops run from 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM
🌲 Cedar Bark – Saturday, June 14
Learn to harvest and weave with cedar using plain weave and twining to make a table mat.
🌿 Spruce Roots – Saturday, July 5
Collect and coil spruce roots into a medallion.
🌾 Cattails & Rushes – Saturday, September 6
Learn versatile weaving techniques using these wetland plants, then create a variety of small items like toys, mats, and baskets.
🍇 Grapevine – Saturday, October 4
Make a basket or tray using the Japanese random weave.
🌱 Willow – Saturday, November 8
Strip and shape willow using the tension technique to craft trays or trivets.
