PICA’s groundbreaking immersive arts program boorda yeyi supports the intersection of emergent technologies and artistic practice. In its first year, the program incorporates artist training, symposiums, commissions and presentations of immersive artworks.
The Intensive Mentorship program provides three selected artists or groups an opportunity to create an artwork prototype with a collaborative team of technical artists, software developers and engineers. Each group is guided by a dedicated mentor, who bring their expertise in extended reality technologies, site-responsive practices and decolonial approaches to dramaturgical writing and critical thinking to the projects.
Throughout May–July 2025, three teams of artists and collaborators have been developing a prototype artwork in an immersive medium.
Join us at PICA on Saturday 26 July for the inaugural boorda yeyi Open Studio where each artistic team will offer insights into their creative process and the complex interweaving of technology and human labour that has gone into the creation of their artwork prototypes. Be the first to experience these projects, hear from the artists and celebrate the conclusion of the 2025 Intensive Mentorship program.
Open Studio Schedule:
2–3pm Prototype Demonstrations
3–4pm Artist Talks and Networking
