Pour un groupe qui a mis l'équivalent de trois mandats présidentiels pour sortir un nouvel album, ils n'ont pas perdu leur élan ni leurs idées en sortant celui-ci. Deux ans après leur retour triomphal avec l'album Glitch, ces surf punks néerlando-franco-japonais survoltés reviennent avec leur dernier album, Down The Hole, et signé CROM, c'est un véritable monstre de vérité. Avec le single hypnotique lourd et lourd en réverbération « Anxiety » déjà sorti lors de l'annonce initiale de l'album, Slovenly Recordings propose le tempo opposé comme prochain single du disque avec les speed-riffs et les break-beats live de « Despair ».
Fin 2022, après avoir donné des concerts à travers l'Europe en première partie de Glitch, The Anomalys a temporairement mis son groupe au repos. Chaque membre est retourné dans ses foyers d'Amsterdam, Pau et Limoges, avant de se retrouver l'année suivante dans les studios Swampland à Toulouse, sous la direction et l'appui de Lo-Spider, le directeur du studio. Dans une atmosphère politiquement tendue sur tout le continent européen, le groupe a écrit ces huit morceaux sombres et apolitiques sur le vif, puis a parcouru les sessions comme une chauve-souris sortie de l'enfer, cherchant frénétiquement des pâturages paisibles, pour finalement atterrir dans une époque marquée par des tensions apocalyptiques. La charge émotionnelle de Down The Hole découle d'événements passés, et ci-dessous, le leader du groupe, Bone, nous éclaire sur ces sessions à Swampland.
"Nous sommes entrés en studio après un chapitre plutôt sombre de nos vies et avons canalisé une colère et une frustration profondes dans ces chansons. Cet album est donc différent du précédent et, musicalement, nous avons ressenti le besoin de nous lancer dans des aventures instrumentales plus longues. Je dirais que cette expérience a porté ses fruits, car nos styles de guitare respectifs, avec Looch, se sont progressivement familiarisés.
