With waves of microplastic still washing up on Noosa’s beaches following ex-tropical cyclone Alfred, Council is calling on the community to join us in a beach clean-up event on Sunday 26 April and help save local marine life.
“We typically see a lot of microplastics wash up on our beaches after weather events like we’ve had in the last few weeks and they’re incredibly harmful to our marine life,” Noosa Mayor Frank Wilkie said.
“Plastic rubbish kills wildlife like turtles and seabirds by choking, drowning or poisoning them. Plastic can look like food and permanently fills their stomachs, so they no longer eat and starve to death.
“The aim of this clean up event on Saturday 26 April is to get as many people as we can helping to remove this harmful plastic from our shorelines and help restore our beaches to their pristine best.”
Please bring a bucket and a kitchen strainer if you have one. Wear a hat and shoes and bring drinking water, gloves will be provided.
