Non-consensual touch was a normal part of many yoga classes in the past, and still in some studios today. Trauma-informed yoga, as well as documentaries and lawsuits revealing unsafe touch in guru-centric yoga circles, have shifted the culture to center consent when it comes to touch. Living through a global pandemic also affected our closeness comfort levels and changed how we teach.
But, if you're anything like me, you're still hoping a teacher will sneak in some child's pose pressure or a Savasana shoulder press. This adjustment heavy class is for students who crave hands-on assists that educate and deepen. Signing up means you're open to exploring how touch can provide insight and awareness, but it isn't blanket consent (because blanket consent doesn't exist).
The class will incorporate elements of Hatha yoga including mindful flows, longer-held postures, and restorative poses. A long sivasana will be offered to soak in the practice. The main focus of class is, like any Mindful Flow class, your own connection to breath and movement. Touch will be sprinkled throughout in a more consistent way than offered in other Soulside studio classes.

About our pay-as-you-can model:
Our highly qualified teachers are paid a percentage of the donations made in their classes. Class Passes or paying $15 or more when you can is what keeps our studio alive, but we understand that we often need mindfulness most when we are going through financial hardships. We have no expectations other than that you are honest with what you are able to invest in your mental and physical health.
