FOO FOO FESTIVAL - IMMERSIVE SHAKESPEARE
Directed by Ashley Simmons and Nathan Simmons // Auditions: August 25 - 26, 2025 / Performances: October 31 - November 8, 2025
Somebody to Love is a psychedelic, immersive reimagining of A Midsummer Night's Dream, adapted and arranged by Ashley Simmons, the creative force behind Pensacola Little Theatre's 2022 Foo Foo Fest experience, Unrequited. Set to the electrifying sounds of 1960s rock, this production blends Shakespeare's whimsical romance with the music of Jefferson Airplane, The Zombies, The Kinks, and more. Audiences will be swept into a world of fairy mischief, star-crossed lovers, and groovy rebellion as they wander through the Clark Family Cultural Center, where reality and enchantment blur in a haze of love, laughter, and rock 'n' roll.

LOOKING FOR:
THE MORTALS
THESEUS (40s - 50s)
Duke of Athens. Confident and commanding. Think classic rock royalty meets statesman.
Audition songs: You Really Got Me by The Kinks or Happy Together by The Turtles
HIPPOLYTA (40s - 50s)
Queen of the Amazons, now engaged to Theseus. Poised, graceful, and no-nonsense. Her presence exudes feminine power and quiet rebellion.
Audition songs: You Really Got Me by The Kinks or Happy Together by The Turtles
EGEUS (40’s - 50’s)
Hermia’s strict and old-fashioned father. Hates fun, happiness, and hippies.
Audition songs: You Really Got Me by The Kinks or Happy Together by The Turtles
LYSANDER (18 - 20s)
A romantic and free-spirited young lover. He’s deeply in love with Hermia and willing to risk it all to be with her. Earnest and impulsive, he could be found front row at a Jefferson Airplane concert.
Audition song: Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers
DEMETRIUS (18 - 20s)
Another suitor of Hermia, though Helena is the one who truly loves him. At first pompous and dismissive, he’s eventually softened by magic and music.
Audition song: Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers
HERMIA (18 - 20s)
Egeus’ daughter. Strong-willed, passionate, and ready to rebel for love. A flower child with fire, Hermia’s journey is one of defiance and desire.
Audition song: Somebody to Love by Jefferson Airplane
HELENA (18 - 20s)
Hermia’s best friend and Demetrius’s jilted admirer. Vulnerable, dramatic, and achingly sincere, Helena pines with the poetic melancholy of a torch song.
Audition song: Somebody to Love by Jefferson Airplane
THE FAIRY COURT
OBERON (20’s +)
King of the Fairies. Charismatic, vengeful, and otherworldly. His love-hate dynamic with Titania fuels the supernatural mischief of the story. He rules with glam-rock mystique.
Audition song: Time of the Season by The Zombies
TITANIA (20’s +)
Queen of the Fairies. Radiant, wild, and proud. She’s a cosmic mother of nature who refuses to be tamed.
Audition song: Walk on By by Dionne Warwick
PUCK / ROBIN GOODFELLOW (18+)
Oberon’s mischievous sprite. A punk-rock trickster, Puck is the chaotic spirit of the show, guiding the audience and delighting in romantic confusion.
Audition song: Time of the Season
PARSLEY, SAGE, ROSEMARY, and THYME
Titania’s attendants. Ethereal and lyrical, these fairies embody the magic of the forest and the haunting beauty of 1960s folk music. Each has their own flavor and charm.
Audition song: Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkel or Happy Together by The Turtles
FAIRIES
Mystical and ever-moving, these fairies bring the forest to life. Serving Oberon and Titania, they guide the audience, spread mischief, and create the magical world of the show.
Audition song: Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkel or Happy Together by The Turtles
THE MECHANICALS (THE PLAYERS)
Audition songs for all Mechanicals: Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You by Frankie Vallie or Happy Together by The Turtles
QUINCE
The director of the Mechanicals’ play. A bit frazzled but fiercely dedicated, Quince is the reluctant stage manager trying to wrangle chaos into performance.
FLUTE
A bellows-mender assigned the role of Thisbe. Reluctant to play his role but ultimately hilarious and heartfelt.
SNOUT
A tinker who plays the wall. Earnest and literal, Snout throws himself into the smallest of roles with great seriousness.
SNUG
The joiner cast as the Lion. Nervous and sweet, Snug worries about frightening the ladies with his roar—a gentle giant at heart.
STARVELING
A tailor who plays Moonshine. Dry and deadpan, Starveling’s literal interpretation of the moon adds layers of absurdity to the Mechanicals’ show.
