When you hear or see the wild parrots of Los Angeles do you ever wonder where they're headed? Roosting sites are a wonderful way to observe hundreds of parrots and parakeets gather during winter evenings. Moore Lab launched the Free-flying Los Angeles Parrot Project (FLAPP), where we're looking closely at the DNA of both the Red-crowned and Lilac-crowned Parrots and analyzing community science observations along the way. These Amazona parrots are native to opposite coasts of Mexico and never meet, but in L.A. they are mingling, roosting together, and even hybridizing.
The Moore Lab will be waiting for the flock as the sun sets; we'll be in front of Pasadena City Hall by 4:15PM. Give us a heads up you'll be parrot watching with us by RSVP'ing. All ages are welcome.
MEET US HERE
We'll be waiting for the parrots at a popular roosting site at Pasadena City Hall at 100 N. Garfield Avenue in Pasadena, 91101 (GPS coordinates: 34.14780279259964, -118.14384803130852).
PARKING SUGGESTIONS
There are street meters (e.g., Union Street and E. Colorado Blvd.) and paid public parking lots in the area. The Paseo lot is $12 max. and a short walking distance to Pasadena City Hall.
