About the author:
World-renowned, James Beard Award-winning, Michelin-starred chef, Curtis Duffy, was raised in Ohio. Duffy moved to Chicago to work for legendary chef Charlie Trotter before becoming Chef de cuisine at Alinea. As head chef at Avenues, Duffy earned two Michelin stars. Duffy later opened Grace restaurant, earning three Michelin stars four years in a row. Duffy has since opened the Michelin-starred restaurant, Ever, and After lounge. Netflix released For Grace—a documentary about Duffy creating Grace, the tragic loss of his parents, and becoming a critically acclaimed chef. Duffy and Ever restaurant have been featured heavily in the hit Hulu series The Bear.
Fans of no holds-barred stories such as Motley Crue’s The Dirt, memoirs by celebrity chefs, and brutally honest personal memoirs will love Fireproof: Memoir of a Chef, a raw and inspiring true story of Duffy’s rise from a chaotic childhood in rural Ohio to being mentored by and recognized among the world’s top chefs. Duffy’s path was meteoric, but not without significant setbacks and sacrifices: from the groundbreaking Charlie Trotter’s kitchen to his first Michelin stars at Avenues, to launching—and eventually making the heartbreaking decision to leave—Grace restaurant, to rising again with Ever restaurant amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Duffy persisted where many others would have resigned their craft, and his story is one of determination, grit, passion, and an unending drive for excellence.
Curtis Duffy will be in conversation with Farmer Lee Jones, who always wears his trademark overalls and red bowtie as a symbol of his commitment to regenerative agricultural practices. Ever since the early days of The Chef’s Garden’s creation over thirty-five years ago, he has remained tirelessly committed to not only ensuring that the family’s three-hundred-acre farm remains one of the most innovative and pioneering in the world, but to fostering a nuanced conversation with the chefs who look to the farm to grow vegetables that are as aesthetically pleasing on the plate as they are flavorful to the palate.
