Join us for the opening of Anne Thrift’s ARTnatomy 7.0: The Lively Sins on Friday, June 6 from 5-7pm. On display June 6-28 in the Miller Gallery.
ABOUT ARTNATOMY 7.0
“Through my latest collection of original artwork, I invite you to explore the seven cardinal sins as they relate to the human body. Rather than taking the usual religious, spiritual, or even historical approach to the seven deadly sins, I aim to highlight both the sins, as well as their opposing moral counterparts or virtues, from an anatomical and physiological perspective. These sins (pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth) exist as distinct emotions or behaviors that have already been well documented and preserved in various writings; I used this as a loose framework for my own visual offshoot. I am intrigued by both the sinful and moral realms of our character found naturally in the human body, whether it be within one specific organ or across an entire system. I want to bring awareness to concepts of the body’s capability of inflicting harm but also more importantly the body’s power to heal. The human form as an ever-changing dynamic entity serves as an ideal vessel to showcase contrasting paired entities including but not limited to damage vs. repair, nature vs. nurture, and illness vs. wellness.”
ABOUT ANNE THRIFT
Although Anne comes from primarily a health sciences academic background, she strives to merge her two passions, visual art and human anatomy, in a way that feels authentic and personal. Anne’s ARTnatomy series of original works (launched in 2019) invites viewers to explore the human body’s overwhelming sense of complexity and resiliency.
“Her fusion of art and science not only offers a visual feast but provides a deeper understanding and appreciation of the marvel that is the human body.” (Business Insider, Artwork By Anne: The Intersection of Art and Anatomy, July 18, 2023, Source:
