BENT HORSESHOE PRESENTS THE RAG POETS ON FRIDAY THE 26th SEPTEMBER at 7.30 AT a COST OF $30.
The Rag Poets are probably our most requested band and are a great act to see.
The band is made up of some legends of the Wellington Music scene and infact the New Zealand music scene.
I remember seeing George Barris with Highway a few times in Palmerston North back in the day and infact had their Lp for many years (it is now a collectors piece).
We always look forward to seeing them as they do such a great mix of music.
Wellington band Rag Poets features Carl Evensen - vocals and percussion (Fourmyula), Vocalist on those early Kiwi radio hits such as ‘Nature’ and ‘Turn Back the Wind’, Rob Clarkson - drums, Alan Norman - accordion and 12 string guitar, who along with Rob played for many years with NZ’s seminal Country band The Warratahs, and Gary Creary guitar. Gary hails from Toronto and has extensive live and session experience including a stint in the fabled Hawks Nest Band. George Barris, on bass, was a member of The Underdogs, Jigsaw, Highway, Blerta, and he also plays with Laura Collins and the Back Porch Blues Band. Rag Poets play many of those ‘heady’ Wellington hits from the 60’s & 70’s era, as well as new material they’ve written and a bunch of covers from the likes of John Prine, Boz Scaggs and Neil Young. The band thrives on big vocal harmonies as they continue to maintain the unique sound they’ve developed over the years. Their audiences love the ‘timeless’ music they play and the stories they tell.
