How can we think of ways to move beyond the confusion we are in, when the way we think is part of the confusion?” – Nora Bateson
Join us for the second Warm Data Lab at Biovilla, where we will explore the connections and differences that shape our lives, the places we inhabit, and the socio-economic structures that affect us. In a time when we face complex challenges, we will create spaces for change through meaningful conversations and unexpected discoveries.
What is a Warm Data Lab?
Warm Data is a concept developed by Nora Bateson to describe information that captures the complexity and interconnectedness of living systems. Unlike “cold data,” which is quantitative and isolated, warm data emphasizes patterns of relationships and the context in which things occur.
Warm Data Labs are spaces for collective experimentation, where groups explore complex issues without reducing them to simplified answers. Through multiple perspectives and interactive dynamics, participants learn together, perceiving the interconnections between different areas – such as ecology, culture, technology, or politics, among others.
These “labs” foster more systemic and creative thinking, helping to create new forms of understanding and collaboration. Instead of seeking closed or correct conclusions, they expand participants’ awareness of the complexity of contemporary challenges, making them more sensitive to the relationships and influences shaping the world around them.

Agenda: come early!
You can arrive from 5:30 PM onwards to get to know the space. If it's sunny, why not bring a book? At 6:20 PM, we’ll offer an optional 20-minute tour to explain the history of Biovilla and what we do. We’ll head into the main room at 6:45 PM and finish the Warm Data Lab at 8:30 PM.
Note: if you’d like to arrive even earlier and work remotely from Biovilla, send us an email (Z2xvY2FscmVnZW5lcmF0aW9uIHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20=). We can serve lunch (10 EUR).
Do I need to take something?
Yes: your authenticity, stories and openness!
Is the event free?
Yes, for now we are offering these labs for free.
Is there dinner?
Yes! We’ll continue the conversations over homemade pizzas, for those who want to stay. We ask for 5 euros to be paid on site by cash, MBWay or Revolut.
Warm Data Lab Host:
In these labs, we’re invited to bring our whole selves, beyond our professional experiences. So, in short: André works in disaster communication at a European scale, facilitates sustainability workshops, lives in Palmela, is a member of the Biovilla and much more...
