Oyster Reef Restoration at Robinson Preserve Volunteer Event

Join us for a fun and rewarding day helping restore vital oyster habitat in the waters of Robinson Preserve! As part of the Manatee County Oyster Habitat Restoration Project, volunteers will work alongside staff to build oyster reefs that support birds, like the American oystercatcher, reddish egret and roseate spoonbill—creating thriving ecosystems for fish, marine life and coastal birds.

This project is funded by FWC's State Wildlife Grant Program, with key partners that include Manatee Fish and Game Association and Coastal Conservation Association (CCA).

Volunteer tasks include:
➡️Shoveling recycled oyster shell into crates
➡️Loading crates onto UTVs and floating platforms
➡️Transporting shell to reef sites
➡️Dumping shell onto reef foundations to build habitat

Please note: This is wet, muddy, physical work in the sun. We'll be on trails, in mangrove habitat and in a lagoon with mucky soils, oysters and hardbottom. It will be hot, sunny and buggy—but incredibly worthwhile! We’ll provide shaded areas and ensure safety, but volunteers should come prepared with proper clothing, hydration and sun/mosquito protection.
