Meet at the Palisade Loop trailhead at 1:00pm
The Palisade Rim Trail in Mesa County, Colorado, offers challenging hiking and mountain biking with spectacular views of the Grand Valley, orchards, and vineyards from the rim of the cliffs above Palisade.
Trail Details
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult
Length: Varies; the lower loop is about 4 miles,(We'll be taking this one) while the full loop is around 13 miles.
Elevation Gain: Significant, with the initial climb reaching about 800 feet to the rim.
Highlights: Panoramic views, petroglyphs, wildlife (lizards, rabbits, eagles), and wildflowers.
Access and Parking:
Location: East of Palisade, along Highway 6.
Parking: Park at the Colorado River boat launch lot (on the left, about 200 feet past the trailhead gate) and walk back south to the trailhead entrance.
This trail is dog-friendly, but dogs must remain on a leash.
Tips for Hikers:
Safety: Be extremely cautious near cliff edges; not recommended for those with a fear of heights. Drink your water.
Facilities: Expect limited facilities, such as no restrooms at the trailhead.
