Meta-Movement
From Walking to Dancing
Moving the body in space, in an upright position, requires raising the center of gravity, good differentiation and organization of body parts through the nervous system, and unimpeded breathing. The ability to predict what is happening in the environment and the processing of sensory stimuli play an important role in both effective functioning, alertness and feedback, and in the confidence to express myself while moving in the world. In this 4-hour workshop, we will focus on the fundamentals of human gait. We will look at what makes walking more efficient and how it contributes to the way we negotiate gravity, direction, and changing momentum. From traditional folk dances to modern dance styles, movement on two small bases, which are the feet, the organization of the spine, and rhythm are the prerequisites of dance.
Cost of workshop: 40 €

The Axis Syllabus© is an innovative initiative of Frey Faust creator of the Axis Syllabus© book and the Axis Syllabus Research Meshwork (ASRM).
It is a movement analysis system, a constantly evolving reference system or a dictionary that concerns the organization and interrelation of empirical and scientific findings related to the study of the human body and how it moves in space. It includes anatomical details, physics, practical applications, research, analysis and transmission of information. It also uses a reservoir of clinical and empirical knowledge and a system of symbols to describe the body in motion in terms of orientation, anatomical structures, and physical principles. It’s teaching material does not consist of a list of definite and consolidated information or exercises. It is not a specific method, however each teacher can use fundamental movement patterns and/or incorporate knowledge from other related fields. Through this system, we are given the opportunity to gradually discover our own way of movement and perception of the body, as we move through space with the help of empirical and scientific data.
What is Somatics
By Somatics (Somatic Practices) we mean a broad field of study of body movement and how it is perceived from within. Emphasis is placed on internal bodily subjective perception and experience in combination with the objective biomechanics of movement and physiology.
In dance, we pay attention to the dancer's inner flow and sense and the integration of the inner and outer self-image during action. We develop our potential while discovering new ways to respond to challenges with trust and confidence.
The word Soma comes from the Greek word Σώμα as Aristotle defined the body. That is, the material body together with its psychic powers and properties as an inseparable whole. An entity that carries within itself a purpose of self-realization known as entelechy.
In a more modern sense, it has also been characterized as a tendency to actualize. That is, the natural tendency towards fulfilling an organism's inherent potential that characterizes the person-centered approach.
There is in every organism, at any level, an underlying flow of movement toward the constructive fulfillment of its inherent potentialities. There is a natural tendency for full development in man. The term most often used for this is the tendency to actualization.
