Periyar Trekking
Border Trekking is a full-day hiking experience along the boundaries of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The trail winds through rolling landscapes and elevations ranging from 900 to 1,300 meters, offering trekkers panoramic views of the towering escarpments that edge the park, surrounding watersheds, and the expansive Cumbam Valley below. Along the way, trekkers may encounter wildlife such as gaur, sloth bears, and elephants, in addition to a rich variety of birds and butterflies.

Itinerary
Day 1
11:00AM: Pick up from Ernakulam South Railway Station. Enroute Lunch
05:00PM: Check in to campsite
08:00PM: Dinner
Day 2
07:00AM: Breakfast
07:30AM: Travel to check post and start trekking.
05:00PM: 15km trekking will wind up by evening and return journey to Ernakulam starts
11:00PM: Drop off at Ernakulam South railway station

FAQ
1. Why the joining point Ernakulam?
A. As people are joining from different places, it’s difficult to manage them. So picking up from everywhere is not possible.
2. Will I get any companions to travel from my city?
Of course, once you register and pay, you will get added to the group of traveller who are in for this trip. There you can see other people who are travelling from your city
3. Do we need to carry our bags everywhere?
A. Yes, you should carry a small day pack with snacks and a water bottle along with you during the walk.
4. After payment, if I cancel the trip, will I get a refund?
A. It's strictly as per the cancellation policy which is written below. So please read it before making any payment after registration
5. How much is for advance payment?
A. 3800rs and balance by 5th of Feb
6. Will there be leeches?
A. It depends on the weather. If it's sunny, there will not be much but still we can expect leaches as it's their territory.
7. When should I book my return tickets from Ernakulam?
A. It’s better to book a train / Bus after 11:000PM, keeping an hour buffer from our reaching time
9. Is there any age limit for this program?
A. Yes, above 12yr old is allowed to do this trek, it's good to have the minimum fitness of walking the trail
Know before you go!
1. Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations. Travellers littering may be fined.
2. Carry a water bottle so that you can refill.
3. Smoking and consumption of alcohol is prohibited throughout the trip
4. We will stick to our time schedule and we will not be waiting for any late running trains/buses. Please book your tickets accordingly.
5. No reimbursement will be provided for any services of the trip that remain unused.
The total group size is 12 participants, including your buddy. The group will be split into two teams of 6 each. The first team, consisting of the first five registrants along with the buddy, will proceed on the Brandipara Trail. The remaining six participants will take the Thondiyar Trail. Both trails are part of the Border Trekking program; however, for safety reasons, only six participants are permitted on a single trail at any given time.
This trek is categorized as difficult, so participants are advised to prepare themselves accordingly.
Cancellation Policy

1. For cancellations done prior to the 30 days or more of the date of departure, initial deposit amount or 25% of the tour cost will be charged as cancellation charges.
2. For cancellations done between 29 days to 15 days prior to the date of departure, 50% of the tour cost will be charged as cancellation charges.
3. For cancellations done between 14 days to 8 days of the tour, 75% of the tour cost will be charged as cancellation charges.
4. For cancellations done within 8 days of the tour, 100% cancellation charges will apply and you will receive no refunds.
5. No refund of money is admissible on cancellations due to any type of contingencies or unforeseen circumstances including, but not limited to natural calamities, lockdowns, any covid induced scenarios or otherwise
